Becoming by Michelle Obama

In this memoir and upcoming Netflix documentary, Michelle Obama invites us into her life, from her growing up in a working class neighbourhood all the way to her time as the First Lady of the United States. In this book and documentary, she shares how the eight years in the White House were only a small part in her story and that so much of who she is happened before. She also reminds us, ‘that if we open up a little bit more to each other and share our stories, that is what will break down barriers’.

Draw The Circle by  Mark Batterson

A 40 day devotional, this book will help us experience a deeper, more passionate, persistent and intimate prayer life. Each day has forty faith building stories, bible verses and prayer prompts, that will help guide us and strengthen our relationship with God.

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

A memoir by the creator of Nike, this book shares the struggles and successes that Nike has gone through. Phil Knight tells us how he created a company with $50 and made it into one of the most recognised brands in the world.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi 

A neurosurgeon, Kalanithi reflects on being a doctor and what makes a meaningful life, after being diagnosed at 36 with incurable lung cancer. 

Year of Yes : How to Dance it out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes

As the creator and producer of some of our favourite groundbreaking shows, it can be easy to think this all came naturally to her and fear wasn’t a factor. When in reality it was after her sister muttered to her ‘You never say Yes’, that Shonda was challenged and decided to spend a year saying ‘Yes’ . This book looks at her life after this year and all she learnt.
