In a world of overloaded information, how do you define your own voice & perspective?
There are countless voices and opinions available to us through the media and online. When seeing them everyday it’s natural to be influenced by them, so when it comes to establishing our own voice and perspective it can be hard to know where to start. How do we understand who we are and know what makes us different from those around us?
Built to stand out
Whilst we can spend our lives wanting to fit into the society around us, we were made to stand out and be unique. We have been made my God through his creative powers and therefore we are all different and individual.
There might be times when we feel that our voice becomes drowned out by the thousands of others out there and we might believe that we have nothing new to add or contribute. This belief is wrong. We have all been made as unique beings, and because of this, our inputs are valuable in their own rights. You have things to give that nobody else does, and what sets you aside from the rest is your power, and it is up to us to utilise it.
God has not made us to be quiet or timid throughout our lives, as it writes in Psalm 18:32 He has instead equipped us with strength and a voice to speak out. Although there will be times when life knocks us down and our spirit may feel broken, we must remember that we have been gifted with all that we need to flourish. Because of this, we do not need to fear rejection or trials for we were made to carry on despite them.
‘You have things to give that nobody else does, and what sets you aside from the rest is your power.’
When you’re lost go back to your roots
With the busyness of the world and the expectations that we can feel from those around us, we can forget our own expectations of ourselves and who we are. As well as this, being hard-working women who constantly strive for the next things, getting wrapped up in ambitions and forget why we started it all in the first place.
During these times of feeling lost on our paths, going back to our roots in God will help us stand firm in our identity again. It is through Him that our foundations will remain strong when the world around us becomes chaotic or uncertain.
‘When we dwell on the past, we may become oblivious to the work that the Lord is doing for us right now.’
Focus on where you are
We may get caught up in living our lives how we think we should and chase materialistic items. Encouraging ourselves to look beyond what happens around us, and instead focusing on God’s will for our lives allows us to question if we’re fulfilling His purpose for us or our purpose for us. It is in delving deeper into these questions that we will be able to define who we are in this world, and more importantly who we are in God.
‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.’ Romans 12:2
There will be parts of our past where we will all have made mistakes, but instead of leading with experiences from the past, we should put our trust in the Lord to take care of us exactly where we are. When we dwell on the past, we may become oblivious to the work that the Lord is doing for us right now. He wants us to rise up and reach our full potential in Him and through Him, and it is only by making use of what we have right now that we are able to do this.
