In the latest episode of The Magnify Podcast, we spoke to fashion designer and owner of label ‘Hanifa’, Anifa Mvuemba, who sent waves through the fashion industry a few weeks ago, when she hosted a live digital fashion show. She spoke to us about that and how that process began as well as the importance of vision when starting a new business. Keep reading to see some highlights from the discussion.
Make the most out of what you have
When we first start our businesses, the resources we have available to us may be limited. However we can still make the most out of what we do have. We need to utilise what we have got. It is during this time that we need to focus on who we are and what we want to bring and ignore those who say it can only be done one way.
‘Hone in on who you are as a brand and do your own thing.’
Ask for help
As entreprenuers we can often try and wear all the hats and do everything ourselves as a way to cut costs. When in actual fact the pressure of having to do it all can be more damaging. We need to know what we need and get help in that area so we can thrive and elevate the business. This is when having the right team is crucial as then you can take the time back to focus on the passion you have for the business.
Schedule to relax
It is a crucial part of being an entrepreneur to love what you do and to actually have a passion for it and for people to be introduced to it. Nevertheless we also have a responsibility to let our teams have some control and allow ourselves to take some time off. Our own health is just as important as running the business. This is when scheduling time to relax is key to ensuring you still are passionate about our businesses and that we aren’t getting burnt out.
‘Know what you need and get help in that area so you can thrive.’
Importance of values
For a long time the fashion industry has been a place where only a certain type of person would be accepted and even though it has gotten better, it does have a long way to go. Therefore it is crucial that we know our value when we set out in fashion or any industry for that matter. When we stay focused on our vision and run our own race, we then thrive in the value we have to bring.
